#MARSHALL AVT 50H HEAD MOD#
One last mod is to the head chassis of the AVT50h and AVT150h heads. It could get damaged if you just yank it off of its plug connection. Anytime you mess with the AVT amp reverb be careful with the reverb connection joint on the circuit board. If you don't like it the great thing is that you can just reconnect the wires. Once you do that the reverb knob acts like a presence control. Otherwise just leave it as is.Īnother popular AVT mod is to unplug the reverb tank. But only replace C92 if you continue to blow fuses after replacing R58. It is as easy to replace as the resistor. 22uf capacitor (available from StewMac for $.39 each). Most owners won't need to do this, but once in awhile I come across an AVT that not only needs R58 replaced as above, but also needs C92 replaced with a 10 ohm.
Just heat up the solder joints on both legs of the old resistor and remove it, trim the legs on the new resistor and poke them through the holes and put a drop of solder on each on the underside of the circuit board. Replace that resistor with a 1W 10ohm resistor ($.49 each at Vetco online). Decide if you want to be proactive in replacing it or not). (There is a chance yours won't be burned up. If you open up the amp (or pull the chassis from the head cabinet if you have the head version) you may see brown colored burn marks at the point on the circuit board that is marked R58, and the resistor at that location may be burned, distorted or charred from heat build up. The factory resistor is undersized and over time will fail because of heat build-up. The internal mod that NEEDS to be done to a AVT amp is to replace the resistor at point R58 on the circuit board.
